The Chromecast is a remote free way of streaming video content to your TV controlled by a laptop or smart device. An initial look at the Chromecast has shown me that is has been well thought out and for $35, I believe is an absolute bargain for enabling media streaming on a non-smart TV.
The box came with:
- 1 Wall Charger + Micro USB Lead (USA Connection) but its just a standard micro USB charger lead so I used one I already had.
- 1 HDMI Extension lead (About 8cm long).
- Worlds smallest help guide.
The extension lead is probably provided as the Chromecast is quite thick and could stop you plugging in a second HDMI if the ports are close together.
After plugging the Chromecast into the TV you are confronted with a message as shown below:
Browsing to the website on a laptop I downloaded the Chromecast setup application and supplied my WIFI connection details in order to set up the device. After it was set up, I downloaded the Chromecast extension for Google Chrome and could use the new button to view YouTube videos on the TV.
The video now streams on the TV. Netflix is also supported and as the video shows below. With an android device you don’t even need to install additional apps, the Chromecast can be selected under the screen streaming icon.
